I have good news and bad news for you.
Good news: Content creation has never been easier, and you can get started today.
Bad news: Content creation has never been easier, and that’s why you could easily get lost in the sea of noise.
The problem with most beginners is, that they don’t have a process to follow.
But, you don’t have to worry about that because below are the exact steps I used to build a combined following of 75K+ followers across YouTube, LinkedIn & Instagram) in a hyper-niche domain.
Let’s get started.
Step 1: Research
You probably spend time on a couple of platforms and consume a certain type of content. Ask yourself the following questions to do your research.
While answering, don’t think about whether your interests will make you money or not. First, we are trying to know ourselves better, and you should do that without a filter.
To take it a step further, the following questions will help you position yourself:
Step 2: Pick One Platform
As a beginner, I wouldn’t recommend creating content for 5 social media platforms simultaneously. That’s why it’s important to go all in with 1 platform only. Once you gain momentum, you can start cross-promoting and re-purposing on other platforms.
So, which platform should you pick?
It depends on your goal.
If you quickly (within 3-6 months) want to generate business, find clients for freelancing services or make a network of like-minded people, LinkedIn & Twitter are best.
If you want to get lucrative brand deals in the future, want to conduct interviews with people, want to do tutorials or explain a concept in detail, YouTube is the best platform.
As far as Instagram goes, I wouldn’t recommend making it your primary platform, because of way too many algorithmic changes over the last few months.
You want to keep your sanity while creating content. And currently, IG seems to take that away from a lot of creators.
Ideal scenario: 1 Social Media platform (YouTube) + Newsletter
Step 3: Define Your Niche
Let’s take an example.
You are interested in:
Your strengths are:
Now demand is a challenging part.
Why? You may ask.
Because you could take the example of a top gamer like Carryminati and say that there’s ‘demand’ for him. Similarly, you could find a top kit-flyer who’s making $10K a month.
From a distance, every domain looks lucrative and ‘in-demand’.
But the truth is, any domain is lucrative if you are in the top 1% of that domain.
So, don’t overthink this step unnecessarily. Pick a few topics and start creating content about them. You won’t be able to ‘find’ your niche before posting content.
Most creators refine their niche over time after getting feedback. So, I’d recommend letting go of your expectation to have a perfect niche from the get-go.
Step 4: Define Content Pillars
Content pillars will help you to create a variety of content throughout a month, while still sticking to your niche.
Let’s say you have decided to talk about Pitch Decks.
Examples of content pillars could be:
Similarly, you can decide 3-5 pillars for your niche as well.
Step 5: Define Your Audience
If you create for everyone, you end up creating for no one.
Nailing your audience persona is important if you want your audience to engage with your content and ideally become your superfans.
Answer the following questions to gain clarity about your audience.
If you feel difficulty answering these questions, simply ask yourself:
‘What did my past 3-year-old self need to know back then, that I know right now?’
Step 6: Decide Frequency
Frequency isn’t about creating 64 pieces of content every day.
You could be creating 3 posts per week and that is completely fine too.
But, to reduce cognitive load every morning before you post, you need to decide:
Again, there’s no hard and fast rule. You have to experiment and then finalize your content frequency.
Step 7: Build Distribution
Chances are, if you post something for the first time, no one will engage or interact.
And that’s fine.
To increase engagement on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter, you’d need to engage with others’ content.
For YouTube, try to be an active participant in FB groups, telegram groups, and subreddits related to your niche. Help other members of those groups so that when you post your video, it doesn't feel spammy.
So, here’s to summarize, these are the 7 steps to get started with content creation:
Step 1: Research
Step 2: Pick One Platform
Step 3: Define Your Niche
Step 4: Define Content Pillars
Step 5: Define Your Audience
Step 6: Decide Frequency
Step 7: Build Distribution
I hope this will help you get started on your journey to create content and create the impact you always wanted to.
I know you will do great, and know that I’m rooting for your success!

Sharing the lessons on career and self-improvement that my past 22-year-old self needed
Hey there, So you started creating content. But you are not sure if it would be sustainable. You don’t know how to earn those dollars that everyone seems to be earning. There are people who’d claim that you can make money in the next 7 days. But it’s important to note that people pay for the value you bring for the skills and experience you have. If you don’t have skills and you don’t have any results, it’s highly unlikely you will earn in the next 7 or 30 days. That’s why we are taking 90...
Hey there, Back in 2019, when I got a job at FSSAI (without an interview), I started getting multiple messages from college students every day to guide them on how to get a job there. Since I had already done it, it wasn’t rocket science for me. But I knew personal branding was relatively a new concept to my audience, so I made a video about my story: https://youtu.be/iHL9qHD_K2o Some students said I just got lucky. Some students said they were inspired. But only a few of them tried posting...
Hey there, Let’s play a game today. Can you spot a mistake new creators are making in the following two examples: Example 1: I got on a phone call with a friend who wanted to get started with content creation in the coding (software development) space. He said he has set goals for his IG reels as well. What’s the goal? you might ask. Well, he wanted to hit 30K followers within 6 months. Isn’t setting goals a good thing, Areeb? Of course, it is. We all need goals not just in social media, but...
